Variant code (also called Stock Keeping Unit or simply SKU) is a unique identifier for your product or material variant. If you haven't enabled multiple variants for an item, the product or material is considered to have a single variant. Variant code is typically used for better internal tracking and identification purposes.

You can create your own code structure to quickly identify and categorize products and materials. A variant code is usually a human-readable letter-and-number code that reveals the item's details, such as color, size, style, etc.

In Katana, if a product or material has variants, then each variant can have a separate unique code. If you have not enabled multiple variants for an item, then the product or material is considered to have a single variant.

Examples:

A Variant code can be very short and simple. For all the different models of chairs a factory produces, product codes might just be C01, C02, C03 and so on.

A Variant code can also reveal more details about your product or material. For a white Table with black legs and height 70 cm, a variant code might be TBL-WH-BL-70.
