Categories are groups of similar items and are useful for better organization and analysis of similar items inside Katana. For example, categories can be used in filtering and sorting different tables and views (e.g. product or material lists, inventory).

Categories can be assigned to products and materials.

Think carefully about your categories. You can organize categories in any way appropriate for your business. For example, items in the same category could:

- serve a similar customer need (e.g. chairs, tables)

- be sold in the same geographical area (e.g. US, Australia, India)

- be managed by the same employee (e.g. Mary, John)

- include materials that serve the same purpose (e.g. table legs, chair legs)
