Units of Measure (UoM) in Katana help you standardize how quantities are tracked across your products and materials. This ensures consistent data for inventory, recipes, and orders.

Using UoM on items

  • Each product or material card has a UoM field where you can select a unit from the dropdown (e.g. pieces, liters, kilograms).

  • Each item can only have one UoM at a time.

  • If you purchase materials in a different unit than you use in recipes or stock, see this workaround

Editing units of measure

You can view and manage all available UoMs from Settings > Units of measure.

Creating a new unit

  1. Go to Settings > Units of measure.

  2. Click + Add new row.

  3. Type in the new unit abbreviation (max 12 characters).

  4. The new unit will now appear in the UoM dropdown menu on item cards.

Deleting a unit

  • Click the trash bin icon next to the unit.

  • If that unit is already in use by products or materials:

    • It will still appear in the Inventory tab, product recipes, and orders.

    • On the item card, the UoM field will be empty, and you’ll need to assign a new one.

Key notes

  • Katana includes a list of the most common units by default.

  • You can add custom units or remove unused ones at any time.

  • Deleted units remain visible in historical data but must be replaced on active item cards.
