Katana supports a wide range of units of measure (UoM) to help you track inventory and production with accuracy and consistency. Using the correct units ensures that product quantities, materials, and conversions remain standardized across your operations.

How unit conversions work in Katana

  • Katana uses the NPM Convert Units library to handle unit conversions.

  • Conversions are supported within the same measurement type (e.g., inches → kilometers, ml → fluid ounces).

  • Cross-type conversions (e.g., milliliters → miles, feet → cm²) are not possible.

If prompted to create a new item when entering a unit abbreviation (e.g., in, ft, fl-oz), ignore the prompt and continue. Katana will recognize the abbreviation as long as it matches one from the supported list.

Note: If you mistype or use an unsupported abbreviation, Katana won’t be able to perform conversions.

Where units are used in Katana

  • Product and material cards → define the base UoM for each item.

  • Recipes and production operations → standardize ingredient quantities.

  • Stock management → track items consistently across locations.
