Note: Mapping tax rates only applies to non-US QuickBooks accounts. Taxes are applied automatically for US QuickBooks accounts.

Katana allows you to map tax rates with QuickBooks Online to ensure consistent and accurate tax calculations across both platforms. This process involves linking tax rates in Katana with corresponding ones in QuickBooks, facilitating seamless financial management and compliance.

To map tax rates

Once you've already connected QuickBooks with Katana, you can begin configuring the integration from the Settings screen > Integrations > find QuickBooks Online and click Open configuration.

In this area, click on the Tax mapping tab to find your current tax rates and names in Katana.

It's required to map any and all tax rates you have in Katana to QuickBooks, so the Activate button in the configuration area won't become available until everything is mapped.

If you'd like to edit, create, or delete tax rates in Katana, click on Manage Katana tax rates.

Additional information

  • Katana doesn't differentiate between sales and purchase taxes, so you can add any tax rate to a sales or purchase order. If you need to apply different tax rates for purchases and sales for the same tax type, you should create 2 different tax rates in Katana (one for purchases and one for sales). Then, map both of those taxes to the same tax in QuickBooks. QuickBooks will apply the correct tax based on the transaction (a sales or a purchase).

  • In Katana, you can choose to add "No tax" to a sales or purchase order line. Just create a new tax called "No tax" with 0% rate and this will be created in QuickBooks and mapped between the two softwares automatically.
