WooCommerce allows you to add metadata/attributes to sales orders (SOs), which provides additional information about the products being sold. Katana automatically imports and displays this metadata, ensuring that all customization or special instructions are visible when fulfilling the order.

What is metadata used for?

Metadata is often used by businesses that sell make-to-order products or offer customization options (e.g., engraving, personalized details, or other order-specific notes).

How metadata is displayed in Katana

When an SO is synced from WooCommerce to Katana:

  • Metadata from WooCommerce appears on the corresponding line item in the Katana SO.

  • If you choose to manufacture the product using Katana’s Make to Order functionality, the metadata labels are also carried over and displayed on the manufacturing order (MO).

This ensures that all necessary product details are available to your production team at every stage of fulfillment.

Important notes

  • Metadata is attached to the underlying product in both WooCommerce and Katana.

    • It does not create new products or variants in Katana.

  • Metadata cannot be added, edited, or deleted in Katana.

    • Katana always displays the metadata exactly as imported from WooCommerce.

Key takeaway

WooCommerce metadata flows directly into Katana SOs and MOs, ensuring product-specific details are always visible, but cannot be changed from within Katana.
