Overview
Manufacturing workflows in Katana help manage production processes from scheduling to completion. You can disable these workflows if they're not relevant to your business; all other features, like inventory tracking, purchasing, sales, integrations, and reporting, remain fully functional.
How to turn manufacturing on or off
Go to Settings > General
Navigate to the Manufacturing section
Toggle Manufacturing workflows on or off
You can switch at any time based on your business needs.
What happens when you turn off manufacturing?
When you disable manufacturing workflows, Katana hides all production-related features.
Here's what changes:
Main navigation
The entire Make screen disappears from your top navigation bar. You won’t see the Schedule tab (where manufacturing orders are managed) and the Tasks tab (where production operations are tracked).
➕ Create button
The + Manufacturing order option disappears from the global Create button.
You'll see options for sales orders, purchase orders, stock adjustments, and other features
Sales orders
The Production tracking column no longer appears on the Sell screen, or in the sales order views.
Options to create manufacturing orders (+ Make to order, + Make to stock) are removed from sales order line items.
Inventory and items
Stock screen:
The option to create an MO from the Stock screen and from the Inventory intel view no longer appears. All items default to + Buy and/or + Outsource.
Item card:
Manufacturing order creation option is no longer available from product cards and Product recipe/BOM views.
The Make checkbox is removed from the Usability section on all product cards.
Plan screen:
The + Make option disappears from the Replenishment view.
What stays available
Disabling manufacturing workflows only hides in-house production features.
These production-related capabilities remain available:
Kits and bundles
Products marked as Kit/bundle continue auto-assembling during order fulfillment. Learn more about managing bundles
Outsourced purchase orders (OPOs)
Continue using OPOs to work with contract manufacturers - track materials sent out and finished goods received back. Learn more about contract manufacturing
Product recipes/BOMs
Your product recipes/BOMs will stay available, and materials can still be purchased as regular inventory items.
Note: Everything else in Katana from managing stock and orders to using integrations works the same way as before.
