In scenarios where products are manufactured specifically for individual customer orders (Make-to-Order or MTO), it's common for some items to be ready before others. Katana allows you to partially deliver these sales orders (SOs) as items become available, ensuring timely fulfillment and efficient inventory management.
Understanding partial deliveries in MTO workflows
When operating under an MTO approach:
Linked manufacturing orders (MOs): Each SO is directly linked to an MO that produces the required items.
Partial completion: If only a portion of the MO is completed, you can partially deliver the corresponding SO.
Inventory impact: Delivered quantities are deducted from inventory, and the SO reflects the remaining items to be fulfilled.
Steps to partially deliver an SO in MTO
Partially complete the MO:
Navigate to the Make screen.
Select the relevant MO linked to your SO.
Click on Change status and choose Partially complete.
Enter the quantity of items that have been produced.
Initiate partial delivery on the SO:
Go to the Sell screen and open the corresponding SO.
Click on Deliver some....
Select the items and quantities you wish to deliver.
Confirm the delivery.
Note: Once an MO is partially completed, you cannot reduce the SO quantity below the completed amount. If adjustments are needed, revert the MO to its previous status, modify the SO, and then proceed accordingly.
Key considerations
Batch tracking: If you're using batch tracking, ensure that batch numbers are assigned during the delivery process.
Inventory adjustments: Partial deliveries update inventory levels, reflecting the shipped quantities and adjusting committed stock.
Order status: The SO status will update to Partially delivered, indicating that some items have been shipped while others are pending.
