Changing the location of sales orders (SOs)

Change SO locations to update inventory statuses across multiple locations.

Managing multiple warehouses or sales locations? Katana allows you to assign and modify the Ship from location for your sales orders (SOs), ensuring accurate inventory tracking and fulfillment.


Changing the location for a single sales order

  1. Access the Sell screen:

    • Navigate to the Sell screen from the top toolbar.

  2. Open the desired SO:

    • Click on the SO you wish to update.

  3. Modify the Ship From location:

    The ship from field on a sales order allows you to choose where the so is shipping from
    • On the SO card, locate the Ship from field.

    • Click on it and select the desired location from the dropdown menu.

Note: Changing the location updates the availability statuses based on the selected location.


Changing the location for individual items within an SO

For more granular control, you can assign different locations to individual items within an SO:

  1. Open the SO:

    • Navigate to the Sell screen and select the SO you wish to modify.

  2. Access the Items table:

    • Within the SO card, locate the Items table.

  3. Modify item locations:

    On a sales order, you can choose from what location each item is coming from
    • Find the Location column in the table.

    • Click on the field corresponding to the item you want to change.

    • Select the appropriate location from the dropdown menu.

Note: If multiple locations are assigned to items within the same SO, the Ship from field will display "Multiple locations."

Changing the location for multiple SOs in bulk

To update the location for several SOs simultaneously:

  1. Navigate to the Sell screen:

    • From the top toolbar, click on the Sell screen.

  2. Select multiple SOs:

    • Use the checkboxes to select the SOs you wish to update.

  3. Initiate bulk edit:

    • Click on the pencil icon located near the top-right corner of the list.

  4. Update Ship from location:

    Popup box where a new location can be chosen for multiple orders
    • In the pop-up window, choose the new Ship from location.

    • Confirm the changes to apply the new location to all selected SOs.


Important considerations

  • Make-to-Order (MTO) manufacturing orders:

    • If an SO has an associated MTO manufacturing order, its location cannot be changed. The MO inherits the location from the SO at the time of creation.

  • Multiple locations within an SO:

    • When items within an SO are assigned to different locations, the Ship from field will indicate "Multiple locations."

  • Inventory status updates:

    • Changing the location of an SO or its items will automatically update the availability statuses based on the new location's inventory.
