In Katana, the production lifecycle is controlled by changing the status of a manufacturing order (MO). Each status triggers specific inventory changes, helping you manage production workflows with precision.
You can manage production either:
At the MO level
At the production operations level (see this article for more info).
Where to change MO status
You can update the status of an MO from:
Manufacturing order statuses and inventory impact
Below is a breakdown of each status and how it affects inventory:
Not started (Default)
Meaning: Production hasn’t started yet.
Inventory effects:
Ingredients → Committed
Finished product → Expected
Work in progress
Meaning: Production has started.
Inventory effects:
No changes to inventory yet.
Ingredients remain Committed
Product remains Expected
Use this to indicate that production is actively underway.
Partially complete
Meaning: A portion of the product has been produced and moved to stock.
Inventory effects:
Product In stock increases (by completed quantity)
Product Expected decreases (by completed quantity)
Ingredient Committed + In stock decrease (based on planned quantities)
Note: Actual ingredient consumption can only be recorded when the MO is fully completed. Partial completions use planned quantities for ingredient movements.
Blocked
Meaning: Production is paused due to an issue.
Inventory effects:
No inventory movements
Ingredients remain Committed
Product remains Expected
Use this when production is halted and no work is being done.
Done
Meaning: The MO is fully completed and marked with a completion date.
Inventory effects:
Product In stock increases (by full quantity)
Product Expected decreases
Ingredient Committed + In stock decrease (based on actual quantities)
Completing an MO finalizes production and updates inventory accurately.
