Learn how to complete a manufacturing order in Katana and understand how it affects inventory and production tracking.
What does “completing” an MO mean?
Completing a manufacturing order (MO) means the production process is finished and inventory updates are applied:
The product is marked as produced and added to stock.
Materials used are deducted from stock.
Any recorded differences (like extra material usage or waste) are logged.
How to complete an MO
There are two ways to complete a Manufacturing Order in Katana:
Option 1: Manually set the status to “Done”
Open the MO card (via the Schedule or Make screen).
Set the Production status to Done.
Option 2: Complete all production operations
If you track production step-by-step:
Complete each operation from the MO card, or
Use the Shop Floor App to complete operations on the shop floor.
Once all operations are marked complete, the MO will auto-complete unless batch tracking is enabled (see below).
Batch tracking
If batch tracking is enabled for:
The product being manufactured or
Any of its ingredients,
Then the MO will not auto-complete after finishing operations in the Shop Floor App. You’ll need to:
Open the MO in the main Katana web app.
Manually assign batch numbers to all tracked items.
Mark the MO as Done.
What happens when you complete an MO?
When you complete an MO, the following inventory updates occur:
Product stock increases by the actual produced quantity.
Expected quantity for the product decreases (based on MO’s planned amount).
Material and subassembly stock decreases based on the actual ingredients used.
Any waste or overuse of materials is recorded.
Adjusting ingredient usage
If the amount of ingredients used differs from the planned recipe:
Open the MO.
Click on the Planned/actual qty field found within the Ingredients table.
Enter the actual quantity used.
This helps you track real consumption and waste. You can also record this via the Shop Floor App.
MO status and workflow
Once marked Done:
The MO moves to the Done table in the Schedule tab.
A Done date is automatically assigned.
If you change the MO status back to a previous state (e.g., Work in progress or Not started):
All inventory changes are reversed, and
The MO moves back to the Open table.
Where to update the MO status
You can change the MO status from two places:
Manufacturing order card
Open an MO and select a new production status from the dropdown.
Schedule tab (Make screen)
Find the MO in your production schedule and change its status inline.
