Understand when Shopify order updates apply to manufacturing orders (MOs) in Katana.

Key principle

How SO changes affect MOs

1. Make-to-Stock (MTS)

  • No impact.

  • The MO continues as planned, regardless of changes in Shopify SOs.

2. Make-to-Order (MTO)

Impact depends on the MO status:

  • Not started

    • SO quantity changed → MO quantity is updated automatically.

    • SO deleted → MO is deleted.

  • Blocked, Work in progress, or Done

    • SO quantity changed → MO is converted to MTS. The link between SO and MO is removed.

    • SO deleted → MO is converted to MTS. The link is removed.

How Katana notifies you

Schedule (Make screen)

  • Unlinked MOs are marked with an amber circle next to the MO number.

MO detail view

  • A message explains what changed:

    • SO quantity changed → Choose to:

      • Update MO quantity → re-establish link with SO (MO stays MTO).

      • Keep current MO quantity → MO remains as MTS.

    • SO deleted → Acknowledge the change. MO remains MTS.

  • Messages remain visible at the bottom of the MO detail view for history. Multiple changes will display multiple messages.

Key takeaways

  • Shopify changes only affect MTO MOs.

  • For in-progress or completed MOs, links are removed and the order becomes MTS.

  • Katana clearly flags affected MOs in the Schedule and MO detail view, giving you options to adjust or continue production.
