Products provide the foundation for inventory tracking in Katana and you can import them from Shopify, upload a spreadsheet, or simply add them manually.

1. Import from Shopify

Best for: Shopify sellers who want to get started quickly.

When you connect your Shopify store to Katana, your products are imported automatically. This keeps your product catalog in sync and saves you from manual data entry.

How to import from Shopify

  1. Go to Integration Marketplace.

  2. Search for Shopify and click Connect.

  3. Enter your Shopify store name and click Authorize.

  4. Log in to Shopify and click Install.

  5. After location mapping, choose Yes, import all products to bring your entire catalog into Katana. You can also import stock levels from Shopify to Katana, and choose how to import non-physical and custom items on orders.

Note: Products sync from Shopify to Katana (not the other way around). Katana matches products by SKU code, so make sure your SKUs are consistent and unique.

2. Import from spreadsheet

Best for: Adding multiple products at once from an existing product list.

Use Katana's import template to upload products in bulk. This is useful if you have a product list in Excel or another system.

How to import from a spreadsheet

  1. Go to Settings > Data import.

  2. Under Add new products, click Download template.

  3. Open the template and fill in your product details: Product name, Variant code/SKU, Default sales price.

  4. In the Buy? column, mark Yes if you purchase products from suppliers.

  5. Save the file as .xlsx or .csv and return to Settings > Data import.

  6. Click Upload data and select your completed file.

Tip: Column names must match the template exactly. If a SKU already exists in Katana, the import will skip that row to avoid duplicates.

3. Add products manually

Best for: Adding a few products or creating products one at a time.

Create products directly in Katana when you only need to add a handful of items.

How to create products

  1. Click the + Create button in the top navigation.

  2. Select + Product.

  3. Enter the product details: name, variant code/SKU, unit of measure, category, and default sales price.

  4. Under Usability, make sure Sell, and Buy are checked if you purchase the product from suppliers.

  5. From the Supply details tab, add a Default supplier (if there is one), Default purchase price, and (optionally) the minimum order quantity (MOQ) and lead time per variant.

Tip: You can also create products on the fly by creating a sales order, purchase order, or doing a stock adjustment. Type a new product name in the item field and select Create new.
