How to connect Katana to Claude (MCP)

Find out how to connect Katana to Claude (including Claude Desktop).

Written by David Lorbiecke

Claude is a highly capable AI assistant and a family of large language models developed by Anthropic, an artificial intelligence research company founded by former AI and safety researchers. It was designed to help you write, code, analyze data, and summarize complex documents.

Before you start

  • A Claude account (works on a Free plan, but only allows one custom connector at a time — paid plans are limitless).

  • Your Katana account login. No API key, just the ability to sign in.

Steps to connect

  1. In Claude, open Customize → Connectors and click + Add custom connector.

    1. In Claude Desktop, Katana may already appear in the connector list — if so, just click Connect and skip to step 3.

  2. Name it Katana, paste https://mcp.katanamrp.com as the server URL, leave Advanced settings closed, and click Add. You'll see Claude's standard notice about third-party connectors — that appears for every custom connector.

  3. A sign-in page opens. Sign in to Katana, approve the connection, and you'll be brought back to Claude.

You'll know it worked if Katana shows Connected in your connector list.

Try your first prompt: open a new chat and ask: “Show me…" You'll see Claude call Katana's tools and answer from your live data.

Troubleshooting

  • The connector won't save:

    • Check the URL is exactly https://mcp.katanamrp.com with no trailing slash. On the free plan, only one custom connector can be active.

  • The sign-in window didn't open, or didn't bring me back:

    • Allow pop-ups for Claude , then open the Katana connector and choose Reconnect. If you signed in with the wrong Katana account, sign out of Katana first and reconnect.

  • Katana is connected but no tools appear in chat:

    • Start a new chat (existing ones don't pick up new connectors). Still nothing? Check the tools menu, then refresh.

Recommendations

It's a smart idea to keep it so that Claude asks before applying changes to Katana — you can also ask it to always show you what it'll change first.

To disconnect: Customize → Connectors → Katana → Disconnect. That revokes access immediately.
