How to connect Katana to ChatGPT

Find out how to connect Katana to ChatGPT

Written by David Lorbiecke

ChatGPT is an advanced artificial intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI. It uses deep learning algorithms to process natural language and generate human-like text responses.

Before you start

To connect Katana to ChatGPT, you'll first need:

  • A paid ChatGPT plan (Plus, Pro, Team, or Enterprise) — the free plan can't add custom apps.

  • Your Katana account login. No API key or token necessary.

  • You'll enable Developer mode — ChatGPT requires it for any custom app, and shows a caution notice.

Steps to connect

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps → Advanced settings and toggle Developer mode on.

  2. Click Create app. Name it Katana, paste https://mcp.katanamrp.com as the server URL, leave Authentication as the default, tick "I understand and want to continue", and click Create.

  3. A sign-in page opens. Sign in to Katana, approve the connection, and you'll be brought back to ChatGPT.

  4. Open a new chat and select Katana from the apps menu — ChatGPT needs the app enabled per chat.

You'll know it worked if Katana shows in your apps list as Connected.

Try your first prompt: "Show me…”

Troubleshooting

  • I can't find the Developer mode toggle — it only appears on paid plans, under Settings → Apps → Advanced settings.

  • "Create app" doesn't appear after enabling Developer mode — refresh the page; if needed, toggle Developer mode off and on again.

  • Katana shows in my apps but ChatGPT won't use the tools — in a new chat, select Katana from the apps menu before sending your message.

Recommendations:
Ask ChatGPT to show you what it'll change before applying anything, and verify important numbers in Katana.

To disconnect: Settings → Apps → Katana → Delete. That revokes access immediately.
