How Katana AI Replenishment works

Written by David Lorbiecke

AI Replenishment is a feature that analyzes your sales history, open orders, and current inventory to generate a demand forecast and a replenishment recommendation.

Instead of manually checking spreadsheets or guessing reorder quantities, you get a clear, data-driven suggestion for what to order, how much, and how urgently.

What it does

For each SKU you analyze, AI Replenishment can provide:

  • A forecast demand for the next 12 months, taking seasonality and trends into account.

  • A recommended order quantity across three scenarios — minimum, recommended, and maximum — so you can choose based on your budget and risk tolerance.

  • Calculated key inventory metrics, including safety stock, reorder point, daily demand, and days of stock remaining.

  • Creates the order in Katana with one click — purchase order or manufacturing order, routed to the right location automatically.

Two ways to use it

Analyze one SKU at a time

Go to the Stock screen → Inventory tab, select a product, and click the Replenish button. The tool fetches your Katana data, runs an AI analysis, and presents the result — usually within 30 seconds.

Analyze multiple (2-50) SKUs at once

Select multiple SKUs from the Inventory tab and click Replenish. The tool processes them in the background and streams results as each SKU completes. You can filter by ABC classification or supplier, and add more SKUs to the batch mid-run.

Note: AI Replenishment is currently in beta.

What data is used?

The AI pulls the following directly from your Katana account:

  • The past 14 months of sales order history (need at least 6 months of sales history for best results)

  • Current inventory levels (on hand, available, and expected from open orders)

  • Open purchase orders and manufacturing orders

  • SKU metadata: supplier, lead time, minimum order quantity, unit cost, and ABC classification

All data is fetched in parallel, which is why analysis typically completes in around 10 seconds per SKU — compared to the several minutes a manual lookup would take.

What happens after the analysis?

Once the analysis is ready, you can:

  • Create a purchase or manufacturing order directly in Katana from the recommended quantity.

  • Pre-plan a draft PO for SKUs that don't need an order right now — the tool calculates the right future date automatically.

  • Update safety stock in Katana if the AI's recommendation differs from your current setting.

  • Share the results with your team as a read-only report link.

  • Chat with the AI to ask questions, adjust assumptions, or request a re-analysis with different parameters.

Tip: If an SKU has no sales history in Katana, AI Replenishment will show a No demand history error for that SKU. If this happens, you can still analyze other SKUs in the same batch.
