Katana lets you set default locations for sales, manufacturing, and purchasing activities. This ensures stock movements are automatically assigned to the right place, helping you save time and reduce errors.

What are default locations?

A default location is the warehouse, store, or site that Katana automatically assigns when you create a new:

  • Sales order (SO)

  • Manufacturing order (MO)

  • Purchase order (PO)

If no custom default is set, Katana uses your Main location (the first one created).

You can always change the location manually on an order (sales order locations can be edited in bulk).

Exceptions to default location rules

    • Always take the location of the underlying Sales order.

    • If you mapped Shopify locations to Katana, the Shopify mapping overrides Katana’s default sales location. Imported SOs will use the location defined in the Shopify integration settings.

How to change default locations

  1. Go to Settings > Locations > Default locations tab.

  2. Choose your preferred default for:

    • Sales

    • Manufacturing

    • Purchasing

Notes

  • Default locations help ensure accurate stock tracking across all operations.

  • The Main location cannot be deleted, but you can rename it if needed.
