Categories in Katana are labels used to group products and materials, enhancing inventory organization and management. By assigning categories, you can streamline navigation, improve reporting, and maintain a structured inventory system.

Creating categories

You can create categories in two ways:

Directly from a product or material card:

Creating a category from the Product card
  1. Open a product or material card.

  2. Locate the Category field.

  3. Type the desired category name. If the category doesn't exist, it will be created automatically.

From Settings:

Categories section inside the settings screen
  1. Navigate to Settings > Categories.

  2. Click on + Add row.

  3. Enter the new category name.

Note: From Settings > Categories section, you can also edit or delete existing categories.

Best practices

  • Organize thoughtfully: Establish a clear categorization strategy that aligns with your business needs.

  • Keep it simple: Use concise and descriptive category names for clarity.

  • Regular review: Periodically assess and update categories to reflect any changes in your inventory structure.
