Use storage bins in Katana to organize inventory inside a warehouse, making stock management and retrieval faster and more accurate. Bins are always linked to a location, so you can track where items are stored at each warehouse or site.
Creating storage bins from Settings
Go to Settings > Locations > Storage bins.
Open the location where you want to add bins.
Click + Add new bin at the bottom of the table.
Enter a storage bin name (e.g., "Aisle 3, Shelf B").
Bins created here will be available for linking to items at that location.
Creating storage bins from an Item card
You can also create a new bin directly from a product or material’s Item card:
Open the item card.
Navigate to the Storage bin field.
Enter a new bin name to create and assign it at the same time.
Importing existing bin quantities
If you already track bin quantities externally (spreadsheets, WMS, etc.), you can import that data into Katana rather than manually re-entering.
This can be done using the Katana Extension Library, a Chrome extension that adds import/export capabilities similar to Katana's own import/export feature, but extended to specifically cover bin location quantities.
How to set it up
Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store.
Follow the bin location import steps in the user guide.
Note: This is a community/extension-based solution, not something directly supported by Katana.
Next steps
Assign default bins per variant per location so items always have a defined storage spot.
