Organize and track inventory across multiple warehouses, stores, or production sites with Katana’s location management feature.

Why create locations?

Creating multiple locations helps you:

  • Track stock levels independently at each warehouse, retail store, or fulfillment center.

  • Streamline stock control and make transfers easier.

  • Manage separate Sales, Make, and Buy lists per location.

  • Improve reporting and order management by assigning transactions to the correct location.

Steps to create a new location

  1. Go to Settings (top-right dropdown menu) and select Locations.

  2. Click + Add new row below the Locations table.

  3. Enter the following details:

    • Location name → the internal name you’ll see in Katana.

    • Legal name → used for official documents (e.g., purchase orders).

    • Address → appears as the Ship to address on PO printouts.

  4. Choose whether this location is used to:

    • Make → manufacture products here.

    • Sell → fulfill sales orders from here.

    • Buy → receive purchase orders here.
(The location will only appear in the order selectors that match your choices.)

  5. Specify which users can see this location (if you have the permission):

What happens after creation?

Once your new location is added, you can:

  • Track stock at that location from the Stock screen.

  • Assign orders (SOs, MOs, POs) to the location.

  • Manage independent order lists and schedules for each location.

  • Use stock transfers to move inventory between locations.

Important notes

  • The Main location (the first one created) cannot be deleted.

  • You can rename the Main location if needed, but it must always exist.
