Categories in Katana help organize your products and materials, enhancing inventory management and data accessibility. Keeping categories up-to-date ensures efficient workflow and accurate inventory structures.

On product or material cards, you can select existing categories or create new ones, but you can't edit or delete categories.


Editing categories

To modify an existing category:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Categories.

  2. Click on the category name you want to edit.

  3. Make the necessary changes in the text field.

Note: Changes will automatically apply to all products and materials associated with the edited category.

To remove a category:

  1. Go to Settings > Categories.

  2. Click on the trash bin icon next to the category you want to delete.

Important: If a deleted category is currently assigned to any products or materials, those items will have their category field left empty.


Creating new categories

To add a new category:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Categories.

  2. Click on + Add new row.

  3. Enter the desired category name.

The new category will be available in the category drop-down menu on product and material cards.


Additional notes

  • Categories can be assigned to items directly from their respective product or material cards. However, editing or deleting categories must be done through the Settings > Categories section.

  • Regularly reviewing and updating your categories helps maintain an organized and efficient inventory system.
