Maintaining an organized and up-to-date list of product recipes, also known as Bills of Materials (BOMs), is essential for efficient inventory management and production planning. In Katana, you can delete product recipes individually or in bulk to remove outdated or unnecessary manufacturing components and processes.
Deleting a product recipe from a single product
To delete a product recipe for a single product:
Navigate to the Items screen:
Go to the Items screen and select the product you wish to update.
If the product has multiple variants, clicking on any variant will open the product card for all variants.
Access the Product recipe / BOM Tab:
Within the product card, click on the Product recipe / BOM tab.
Delete the recipe:
Click on Delete recipe located at the top corner of the ingredients table.
Confirm the deletion when prompted.
Note: If the product has multiple variants, deleting the recipe will remove it for all variants.

Important: Deleting a product recipe does not affect open manufacturing orders (MOs) for that product. To update existing MOs with the new recipe, use the Update MOs option at the bottom of the screen or open individual MOs and click Refresh data.
Deleting product recipes in bulk for multiple products
To delete product recipes for multiple products simultaneously:
Navigate to the Items screen:
Go to the Items screen.
Select products:
Check the boxes next to the products whose recipes you want to delete.
Initiate deletion:
Click on the Delete icon (trash can) at the top of the screen.
Choose Recipes / BOMs:
From the dropdown menu, select Recipes / BOMs.
Confirm the deletion when prompted.
Note: If you select a variant of a product that has multiple variants, the recipes for all variants of that product will be deleted.
User permissions
If you do not see the option to create or edit a product recipe, ensure that your user role has the necessary permissions. Refer to the user permissions guide for more details.
By regularly deleting outdated or unnecessary product recipes, you can keep your manufacturing data clean and relevant, supporting efficient production workflows.
