How to add stock from bins to sales orders (SOs)

Choose stock from specific bins to reserve those items.

Written by David Lorbiecke

Pick stock from specific bins directly on a sales order (SO) without needing to transfer quantities to Unassigned before beginning the order. If you're tracking batch or serial numbers, this data is included.

How it works

When an item is added to an SO, a traceability indicator appears in the Quantity field. This indicator appears for every item when multi-bins are active.

To assign bins and traceability to an SO line:

  1. Click the traceability indicator (or the arrow on the left of the item name) to open the traceability row.

  2. Select a bin

    1. If the item is tracked, choose a batch or serial number

Several fields will automatically prefill depending on:

  • If there is only one batch in a bin, select the bin, and the batch is prefilled

  • If a full batch is located in a single bin, you can select the batch, and the bin is prefilled

  • If a serial number is selected, the bin is automatically prefilled

What happens once bins are assigned?

The quantity is reserved for that SO and cannot be used on other orders or documents while reserved.

If the SO is set to a partially or fully packed status or a partially or fully delivered status, the quantities are consumed from the selected bins.

If the SO is reverted, the quantities return to their bins but remain reserved for the order. To fully release quantities, remove the bin information from the SO.
