Inventory preferences: negative stock and traceability rules for manufacturing orders

Choose whether Katana notifies you or blocks you when completing a manufacturing order would cause negative stock or missing traceability data.

Written by Igor Leus

The Preferences page lets you decide how strict Katana should be when you complete manufacturing orders (MOs). You can keep things flexible and get notified about potential issues, or block the action entirely to keep your inventory data accurate.

You'll find it under Settings > Inventory management > Preferences.

There are three independent settings, and each one can be turned on or off separately:

Prevent total negative stock

If enabled, it won’t be possible to complete an order that will result in negative stock.

Prevent negative traced stock

If enabled, it won’t be possible to complete an order that will result in negative stock that is batch or serial number tracked.

Prevent not assigned traceability

If enabled, you can complete orders without assigning batches or serial numbers (when applicable)

How to change your preferences

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. Under Inventory management, select Preferences.

  3. Turn each setting on or off depending on your processes.
