Operators can assign a batch to the finished product directly in the Shop Floor App when completing a manufacturing order (MO). They can pick an existing batch or create a new one, so the batch is recorded when the product is made.
Before you start
You need all of the following:
The Traceability add-on. Batch tracking is part of Traceability. Without it, batch fields don't appear anywhere in Katana.
A batch-tracked product. Batch tracking must be turned on for the product (or its variants) being manufactured. Products without batch tracking complete as usual, with no batch step.
Operators assigned to tasks. The MO's production operations must be assigned to operators so they show up in the Shop Floor App. Operators only see and complete tasks assigned to them.
Turn on batch assignment in the Shop Floor App
The setting is off by default.
Go to Settings > Manufacturing > Manufacturing.
Turn on the Let operators assign a batch to the finished product when a manufacturing order is completed toggle.
The change applies right away. Operators see the batch step the next time they complete a task on a batch-tracked MO.
Assign a batch in the Shop Floor App
When an operator completes the last task on a batch-tracked MO, the Shop Floor App prompts for the finished-product batch before the task can be completed.
Open the task and tap Complete.
In the batch step, choose one of the following:
Pick an existing batch. Select a batch number from the list. Only batches of the same product or variant are shown.
Create a new batch. Enter a batch number and, if needed, the expiration date. The batch is created and assigned in one step.
Enter the quantity for the batch and confirm.
The operator can't complete the task without assigning a batch for the full quantity being completed.
Partial completions
If an operator completes only part of the MO quantity, they assign a batch only for that portion. Each partial completion asks for its own batch.
The operator can reuse the same batch across partial completions, or use a different batch each time.
One MO can end up with several finished product batches, each with its own quantity.
The remaining quantity stays open on the task until it's completed.
What happens next
Once the last task is completed and the batches cover the full quantity, the MO is automatically marked as Done. No one needs to open the MO in the main app.
On the MO: the assigned batches and their quantities are shown in the finished product section.
In Stock: the batches appear under the product's batch stock, with the quantities added to inventory at the MO's location.
If a batch was entered incorrectly, a user with main-app access can correct it on the MO.
When the setting is off
With the setting off, operators complete tasks in the Shop Floor App without a batch step, and the finished product batch is assigned in the main app:
Open the MO in the main Katana app.
In the finished product section, select or create the batch and enter the quantity.
Mark the MO as Done.
Until a batch is assigned, the MO can't be marked as done.
