Copying a product recipe to/from another product

Copy product recipes from one product to another for efficient recipe management and consistency.

Copy your product recipes (Bills of Materials—BOMs) between products in Katana to efficiently manage them. This streamlines the recipe creation process, ensures consistency across similar products or variants, and saves valuable time.


Copying a recipe from another product

To duplicate a recipe from an existing product:

  1. Access the Product recipe / BOM tab:

    • Navigate to the Items screen and select the product you wish to update.

    • Click on the Product recipe / BOM tab.

  2. Select the active variant:

    • If the product has variants, choose the appropriate variant from the Active variant dropdown.

  3. Initiate the copy process:

    • Click on the Copy from... button located at the top right corner of the ingredients table.

  4. Select the source product:

    • Search for and select the product whose recipe you want to use as a template.

  5. Confirm overwrite (if applicable):

    • If the current product already has a recipe, you'll be prompted to confirm the overwrite action.


Copying a recipe to another product

To replicate a recipe to one or more products:

  1. Access the Product recipe / BOM tab:

    • Navigate to the Items screen and select the product with the recipe you want to copy.

    • Click on the Product recipe / BOM tab.

  2. Select the active variant:

    • If the product has variants, choose the appropriate variant from the Active variant dropdown.

  3. Initiate the copy process:

    • Click on the Copy to... button located at the top right corner of the ingredients table.

  4. Select destination products:

    • Use the search field to find and select the product(s) you want to copy the recipe to.

  5. Choose copy method:

    • Decide whether to:

      • Replace the existing recipe in the destination product(s).

      • Add the copied recipe rows to the existing recipe in the destination product(s).

  • Variant considerations:

    • When copying recipes between products with different variant structures, ensure compatibility to maintain data integrity.

  • Efficiency tips:

    • Utilize this feature to maintain consistency across similar products, especially when introducing new variants or products with shared components.

  • User permissions:

    • Ensure you have the necessary permissions to perform these actions. If options are unavailable, consult your system administrator.
