In Katana, you can create specific product recipes (BOMs) for each variant of a product. This functionality allows for efficient management of products with different variations, such as size, color, or material.
By assigning unique recipes to each variant, you can streamline production processes and inventory management.
Steps to create variant-specific product recipes
Enable variants for a product (if not done already):
Navigate to the Items screen and select the product you wish to add variants to.
In the General info tab, enable the Variants option by checking Yes, this product has multiple variants.
Define the variant options (e.g., Size, Color) and their respective values (e.g., Small, Medium, Large; Red, Blue).
Access the Product recipe / BOM Tab:
Add ingredients to the recipe:
Copy recipes to other variants (optional):
If multiple variants share the same recipe, you can use the Copy to... function to duplicate the recipe across other variants.
This feature simplifies the process of assigning identical recipes to multiple variants.
Tips and considerations
Material variants:
You can create variants for materials to use in product recipes.
However, material variants cannot be created through the quick-add feature in the recipe table. To create material variants, navigate to the respective material card.
Editing recipes:
To modify an existing recipe, select the desired variant from the Active variant dropdown and make the necessary changes directly in the table.
Changes are saved automatically.
User permissions:
If you are unable to create or edit product recipes, ensure that your user role has the necessary permissions.
By creating variant-specific product recipes, you can enhance customization and production efficiency within Katana, ensuring that each product variant is manufactured with the correct components and quantities.
