Learn how Katana imports products from BigCommerce, how matching works, and what product data fields are synced.

When products/stock are imported

Products are imported from BigCommerce to Katana in the following cases:

  1. During the initial integration setup

    • You can choose to import all products from BigCommerce.

    • Or, import only the products linked to open sales orders (SOs).

    • In the connection setup, you can also import product stock levels and cost prices from BigCommerce

  2. When syncing new SOs

    • If a new SO is imported from BigCommerce, all products on that order are also imported.

Note: Products aren't imported from Katana to BigCommerce unless the option is selected on the Stock sync step.

How products are matched

When importing, Katana checks if the product already exists:

  1. By SKU code (case-sensitive)

    • BigCommerce SKU ↔ Katana Variant Code.

    • Example: code-1CODE-1 → Katana creates a new variant.

  2. By BigCommerce ID

    • If no SKU match is found, Katana uses the BigCommerce ID (stored in Katana after the first sync).

    • This ensures the same product isn’t imported multiple times.

If no match is found, Katana creates a new product (or new variant if applicable).

Note: Importing “Custom items” from BigCommerce SOs is optional. Custom items are always created as new products in Katana and won’t match existing items.

Editing and deleting products

  • Changes made to products in BigCommerce are not synced.

    • Product changes made in Katana can be synced back to BigCommerce based on your choice in the Stock sync step.

  • Deleting a product in one system does not delete it in the other.

New products after integration

Once integration is active, new products are not automatically synced from BigCommerce. They are only imported if:

  • They are included in an SO synced from BigCommerce, OR

  • You reconfigure the integration in Katana and choose to import all products.

Multiple BigCommerce stores

If you connect multiple BigCommerce stores, the product import works the same way for each store.

  • Matching rules (SKU and BigCommerce ID) apply across all stores.

  • If the same SKU already exists in Katana from another store, Katana will match it rather than create a duplicate.

With this setup, you can ensure product data from BigCommerce is always available in Katana without duplicates, while keeping control over what is imported.
