Ensure accurate inventory control and full traceability by enabling batch tracking for subassemblies in Katana.

What are subassemblies?

In Katana, a subassembly is a product used as a component (ingredient) in the manufacturing of another product. Subassemblies are created through manufacturing orders (MOs) and then used in other MOs just like raw materials.

Why enable batch tracking for subassemblies?

Enabling batch tracking for subassemblies allows you to:

  • Select specific batches when using a subassembly as an ingredient.

  • Maintain precise records for quality control and compliance.

  • Track the lifecycle of subassemblies from production to final sale.

How it works

Batch tracking for subassemblies works exactly like it does for materials:

  1. Enable batch tracking for the subassembly by switching it on from the item card.

  2. When a manufacturing order (MO) includes a batch-trackable subassembly as an ingredient, Katana will prompt you to:

  3. This happens during MO completion, the same way as with materials.

Note: All batch rules β€” such as not using expired batches and selecting only from the correct location β€” apply equally to subassemblies.

By enabling batch tracking for subassemblies, you can maintain full visibility and traceability across all stages of production β€” from raw material to finished product.
