Katana allows you to import, update, and export barcodes in bulk using spreadsheet templates. This helps streamline barcode management for items, variants, and batches across your inventory.

Availability: Bulk barcode imports/exports are part of the Full-Traceability add-on, which is automatically included on all plans except Standard, which can be purchased separately.

Importing barcodes

You can import barcodes for both new items and existing items. Katana provides spreadsheet templates for each workflow.

1. Importing new items with barcodes

When creating new items in bulk, you can assign barcodes directly in the import template.

2. Updating existing items with barcodes

If your products or materials already exist in Katana, you can bulk update them with barcodes.

3. Importing batch barcodes

If you’re using batch tracking, you can also bulk import barcodes by including them in the batch number import template. Each batch can have its own barcode assigned.

Exporting barcodes

You can export existing barcodes to a spreadsheet for reporting, auditing, or printing purposes.

  • Exports include item barcodes, variant barcodes, and batch barcodes (if enabled).

Printing barcodes

Katana doesn’t generate physical barcode labels directly.

To print labels:

  1. Export barcodes from Katana to a CSV or spreadsheet file.

  2. Use a label printing software that supports imports (e.g., via CSV).

  3. Design and print your barcode labels from there.

Summary

  • Import barcodes for new or existing items using Katana’s spreadsheet templates.

  • Batch barcodes can also be imported via batch number imports.

  • Export barcodes for external use, such as label printing.

  • Printing requires dedicated label software that supports CSV imports.
