How to edit materials

Easily edit material details in Katana, including names, categories, and prices.

Updating material information in Katana ensures your inventory data remains accurate and reflective of current stock levels, costs, and categorization. From editing material names and categories to adjusting purchase prices and unit measures, Katana facilitates quick modifications directly from the material card.

You can edit a material on the material card. As there is no "Edit" button on a material card, simply make changes, and they will save automatically. You will see All changes saved at the top right-hand of the material card.

Editing a material can be done on the Material card, but there's no "Edit" button, simply make changes, and they'll save automatically. You will see All changes saved at the top right-hand corner of the material card.

  1. Navigate to the Items screen and find the material from the Materials table. Click on it to open a material card.

  2. Edit a field and your changes automatically saved.

On the material card, you can edit information such as:

Material Name, Category, Unit of Measure, Variants, Variant code / SKU, Batch tracking, Default purchase price, Default storage bin.

Editing a material purchase price

Editing the default purchase price on a material card (Supply details tab) will also change the default price of the material when added to new purchase orders. Existing purchase orders won't change.

When using multi-currency (available on Standard and higher plans), if your supplier currency is different than your base currency, the default purchase price will be in the supplier's currency. Read more

Editing Materials in bulk

You can edit products edit the Category and Custom field collection of materials in bulk from the Items screen > Materials table.

Bulk updating Materials

  • Category - you'll need to choose an existing Category from a dropdown menu, you can't create a new Category when bulk updating.

  • Custom field collection - if you're using custom fields for items, you can bulk change the collection, but you need to choose an already existing collection.

Additional Material bulk updating

For any additional types of product bulk updating (such as editing Variant codes / SKU for materials in bulk), you'll need to export/import your materials.
