Katana allows you to easily edit product details directly from the product card or in bulk from the Items screen. Whether updating product names, categories, sales or purchase prices, or managing batch tracking and SKUs, this guide ensures your product information is always current and accurate, enhancing your inventory management and sales processes.

Note: If the option to create/edit a product isn't available, take a look at this article regarding user permissions.

Editing a single Product

Product card inside of Katana

Editing a product can be done on the product card, but there's no "Edit" button, simply make changes, and they'll save automatically. You will see All changes saved at the top right-hand corner of the product card.

  1. Navigate to the Items screen > Products table and click on the product you want to edit.

  2. Edit a field and the changes are automatically saved.

On the product card, you can edit the following areas:

General Info - Product name, Category, Make and/or Buy options, Batch tracking, Unit of Measure, Variant codes / SKU, Variants, Sales prices, Purchase prices, Default storage bin, Default supplier.

Product Recipe - Ingredients, Quantities

Production Operations - Operation steps, Resources, Cost per hour, Time/duration

Note: Changing a product's recipe or operations won't automatically change them on an existing manufacturing order (MO). If the recipe or operations for a product is updated, you'll find a notification at the bottom of the screen when opening an existing MO for the product. Click Refresh in the notification to apply the changes.

Editing a product's sales price

If you edit the sales price on a product card, it will change the default sales price for new sales orders and update the price shown in the product and inventory lists. Existing sales orders will not be changed.

Product sales prices can be changed on sales orders, but this doesn't affect the default sales price on the product card.

From the product card, you can bulk update the sales price of variants

Editing products in bulk

You can edit a product's Category, Custom field collection, and Sales price in bulk from the Items screen > Products table.

Bulk editing options for Products

Bulk updating products

  • Category - choose an existing Category from a dropdown menu, you can't create a new Category when bulk updating.

  • Custom field collection - if you're using custom fields for items, you can bulk change the collection, but you need to choose an existing collection.

  • Sales price - can be updated using 3 different adjustment methods: adding a new price, by Percentage amount, or by a Flat amount.

Additional product bulk updating

For any additional types of product bulk updating (such as editing Variant codes / SKU for products in bulk), you'll need to export/import your products.
