Efficient product management is crucial for maintaining accurate inventory and streamlined operations. This guide covers how to edit, duplicate, and delete products in Katana, ensuring your product data remains current and organized.
Editing products
Editing a single product
Navigate to the Items screen:
Go to the Items screen and select the Products tab.
Click on the product you wish to edit to open its product card.
Make changes:
General info: Modify fields such as Product name, Category, Make and/or Buy options, Batch tracking, Unit of Measure, Variant codes / SKU, Variants, Sales prices, Purchase prices, Default storage bin, Default supplier.
Product recipe: Update ingredients and quantities as needed.
Production operations: Adjust operation steps, assigned resources, costs, and durations.
Automatic saving:
Changes are saved automatically. A confirmation message "All changes saved" will appear at the top right corner of the product card.
Note: Updating a product's recipe or operations does not automatically update existing manufacturing orders (MOs). To apply changes to open MOs, open the MO and click Refresh when prompted.
Editing a product's sales price
If you edit the sales price on a product card, it changes the default sales price for new SOs and updates the price shown in the product and inventory lists. It will not affect existing SOs.
Product sales prices can be changed on SOs, but this doesn't affect the default sales price on the product card.
From the product card, you can bulk update the sales price of variants
Editing products in bulk
Select products:
In the Products table (inside the Items screen), check the boxes next to the products you want to edit.
Bulk edit options:
Click on the bulk edit button (pencil icon) to modify:
Category: Assign an existing category.
Sales price: Adjust by setting a new price, applying a percentage change, or adding/subtracting a flat amount.
Custom field collection: Apply a predefined set of custom fields.
Note: Use the import/export feature to bulk edit other fields, such as variant codes and SKUs.

Duplicating products
Duplicating a product is useful for creating similar items without re-entering all the details again.
Open a product card:
Duplicate product:
Review new product:
A new product card will open with all details copied from the original, including Category, Unit of measure, Variant codes, Safety stock levels, Sales prices), Variants, Product recipe, and Production operations are duplicated to the new product card.
The new product's name will have "COPY" appended to it.
Note: If the original product was archived, the duplicated product will be active by default.
Deleting products
Deleting products helps maintain a clean and up-to-date inventory.

Important notes:
Products cannot be deleted if they have variants with stock quantities or are included in open orders.
Katana will notify you if a product is currently used in open orders or product recipes.
Deleted items appear with a strikethrough in orders.
Stock movement history is removed upon deletion.
