Creating a new customer enables adding it to Sales orders (SO). You can also add email addresses, phone numbers, shipping and billing addresses, and any comments to your customers in the Contacts screen of Katana.
When creating a SO, you can search for existing customers by typing the customer name into the Customer field of a SO, and selecting a customer from the drop-down.
Creating a customer
Click on the global "+" sign and select + Customer.
You will then be directed to a Customer card page with the following fields:
Display Name (required) - Used to look up customers on Sales orders and is visible on printouts
Email address - Must match general email address formatting. If not, it will be highlighted in red and will not save
Currency - Default currency that is added to a SO (Advanced or higher plan only)
Phone number - The customer's phone number
Comments - Add any internal comments for a customer. These comments do not appear on any documents when printing.
Billing address - Default billing address used on Sales orders
Shipping address - Default shipping address used on Sales orders
Customers can be selected from the drop-down menu of the Customer field on Sales orders.
To create a customer on a SO, type the customer name into the Customer field. If the customer doesn't already exist in your Contacts, create a new customer by clicking Create new "customer name" from the drop-down menu or by pressing Enter on a keyboard. The new customer will be saved to the SO and added to your Contacts.
Customers imported from Shopify or WooCommerce
When creating the initial connection it's possible to import all customers from your e-commerce platform to Katana, including all address data.
If you are using our integration to pull SOs to Katana, customer info for those SOs will also be pulled automatically to Katana. Katana checks whether a customer brought from Shopify already exists in Katana:
If a customer already exists in Katana, the existing customer will be added to the SO.
If a customer doesn't exist in Katana, a new one will be created.
