How to create a customer

Easily add new customers with detailed contact, discount, and address info.

Efficient customer management is vital for streamlined sales operations. Katana allows you to easily add and manage customer details, ensuring accurate information for sales orders (SOs) and seamless integration with other platforms.


Creating a new customer

  1. Access the customer creation form:

    • Click on the global + Create button located at the top-right corner of the screen.

    • Select + Customer from the dropdown menu.

  2. Fill in Customer Details:

    • You'll be directed to a Customer card page with the following fields:

      • First name: Customer's first name.

      • Last name: Customer's last name.

      • Company name: Name of the customer's company.

      • Display name (required): Used to identify the customer on sales orders and is visible on printouts.

      • Discount: A percentage discount applied to all line items for new sales orders created for this customer.

      • Email address: Primary email for the customer.

      • Currency: Default currency for sales orders created for this customer (available on Standard and higher plans).

      • Phone number: Customer's contact number.

      • Comments: Internal notes about the customer; these do not appear on printed documents.

      • Billing address: Default billing address used on sales orders.

      • Shipping address: Default shipping address used on sales orders.

      • Other shipping addresses: Option to add multiple shipping addresses for the customer.

Adding a customer during sales order creation

When creating an SO:

  • In the Customer field, type the customer's name.

  • If the customer doesn't exist in your Contacts, you'll see an option to Create new "customer name" in the dropdown menu.

  • Click this option or press Enter to create the new customer.

  • The new customer will be saved to the sales order and added to your contacts.


Importing customers from integrations

Katana supports importing customers from various platforms:

    • During the initial connection, you can import all customers, including address data.

      • *Shopify allows you to import customers after initial connection as well

    • When pulling SOs from these platforms, Katana checks if the customer exists:

      • If the customer exists, it's added to the SO.

      • If not, a new customer is created in Katana.

    • Similarly, during the initial connection, all customers and their address data can be imported into Katana.

      • *QuickBooks Online allows you to import customers after initial connection as well
