Easily manage inventory in Katana’s Warehouse App by scanning barcodes to record stock movements and improve accuracy.

Note: The Warehouse App is part of the Warehouse Management add-on. Included in Professional and Professional Plus plans. Standard plan users can purchase it separately.

What you can do with scanning

Scanning allows warehouse operators to:

  • Speed up picking and receiving

  • Ensure data accuracy

  • Eliminate manual entry

Supported scanning methods:

  • Infrared scanners (built-in or external)

  • Mobile device cameras

Scanning for Pick & Pack tasks

Operators can scan:

  • Registered product barcodes

  • Batch barcodes (if batch tracking is enabled)

Using an infrared scanner

  1. Open and start a Pick & Pack task.

  2. Scan the item's barcode using the scanner.

  3. The item is recognized, and a detailed view opens.

  4. (If required) Assign a batch number.

  5. Scan the barcode multiple times to increase quantity, or manually adjust.

  6. Continue to scan the next item.

Tip: Batch barcodes are required if batch tracking is enabled.

Using a mobile device camera

  1. Open and start the Pick & Pack task.

  2. Tap the camera icon to launch the scanner.

  3. Point your device at the item’s barcode.

  4. Once scanned, a detailed view of the item opens.

  5. (If applicable) Select a batch number.

  6. Confirm the quantity (manually or via repeat scans).

  7. Return to the item list and repeat for the next product.

Scanning for Receiving tasks

Operators can scan:

  • Supplier barcodes for incoming inventory

Note: Barcodes for receiving can be scanned in any order. You don’t need to return to the task list between items.

Steps:

  1. Open and start a Receiving task.

  2. Use an infrared scanner or tap the camera icon.

  3. Scan the barcode on the supplier label.

  4. If the item is batch-tracked, select or create a batch.

  5. Confirm the quantity and return to the task list.

  6. Continue scanning the next item.

Helpful tips

  • Batch assignment is mandatory for batch-tracked items.

  • Mixed barcode scanning is supported for receiving, with no need to follow a specific sequence.

  • Error scanning? Double-check barcode clarity and ensure the item is already registered in Katana.
