Need to update your manufacturing steps? Katana makes it easy to edit production operations directly from a product card. You can change operation names, update time, assign new resources, and more.

Want to edit multiple operations at once? Learn how to import and update in bulk

Before you start

  • Make sure the Make option is enabled on the product.

  • You need permission to edit product operations.

Note: Changes to production operations don’t automatically apply to existing MOs, but you can update open MOs manually (more below).

How to access production operations

  1. Go to the Items screen.

  2. Select the product you want to update.

  3. On the product card, go to the Production operations tab (next to General info and Product recipe / BOM).

Editing steps, time, and resources

  • Edit fields directly: Click on a field (e.g. operation name, resource, cost/hour, or time) and type in your changes.

  • Changes are saved automatically — no save button needed!

  • Reorder steps: Drag and drop rows to change the operation sequence.

  • Delete a step: Click the trash icon at the end of the row.

  • Remove all operations: Delete each step individually to clear all operations for a product.

Apply changes to open manufacturing orders (MOs)

Changes to a product's production operations don’t update existing MOs by default.

If you've already created MOs and made edits to the product’s production operations:

  • A notification will appear at the bottom of the product card offering to update all open MOs with the new setup.

  • If the MO card's production operations differ from those of the product's current version, you'll also receive a notification.

  • Click Refresh on the MO to sync the new operations.
