Serial number tracking is a powerful feature in Katana that helps trace individual units throughout your operations. If you no longer need this functionality, you can disable it, but keep in mind that this action is irreversible and will permanently delete associated serial number data.

Before you begin

Disabling serial number tracking will:

  • Permanently delete all serial number records for all variants of the ones you've disabled serial number tracking for.

  • Remove serial number assignments from completed sales orders, purchase orders, and manufacturing orders.

  • Remove serial numbers from the Serial numbers list view.

If you want to preserve this data, we strongly recommend exporting your serial number history first.

How to disable serial number tracking

Serial tracking functionality can be enabled or disabled at the item level.

  1. Go to Stock screen and open the product card.

  2. Under Product tracking, select No tracking.

  3. Read the warning prompt carefully.

  4. Confirm your decision by clicking Disable.

Once disabled:

  • All serial number tracking functionality will be removed.

  • You will not be able to assign serial numbers to this item or track them across documents.

  • This action cannot be undone.
