Disabling serial number tracking in Katana will permanently delete all associated serial number data for that item. To prevent data loss, it's crucial to export this information before turning off tracking.

Why this matters

Once serial number tracking is disabled for an item, all existing serial number records are irreversibly removed from Katana. This includes the item's entire serial number history, which is essential for traceability, warranty claims, and quality control.

Recommended Action

Before disabling serial number tracking for any item, export its historical serial number data to retain a record outside of Katana.

How to export serial number data

  1. Navigate to the Serial numbers tab:

    • Go to the Stock screen in Katana.

    • Click on the Serial numbers tab.

  2. Apply filters (Optional):

    • Use filters to narrow down the serial numbers you wish to export.

    • Any filters applied will also be reflected in the exported data.

  3. Export data:

    • Click on the Export button to download the filtered serial number data as a spreadsheet.

Additional tips

  • Data integrity: Ensure that the exported data is securely stored. Once tracking is disabled, it will serve as your only record.

  • Review before disabling: Double-check that all necessary data has been exported and backed up before proceeding to disable serial number tracking.
