The Shop Floor Control app in Katana is a web-based tool designed to help production teams manage and monitor manufacturing tasks in real time — right from the shop floor.

Note: Available through the Advanced Manufacturing Add-on (requires Standard plan or higher).

What is the Shop Floor Control App?

This mobile-friendly app is designed for shop floor operators and helps streamline daily production by:

  • Providing clear task lists for each production worker.

  • Sending real-time production updates directly to the main Katana platform.

  • Supporting paperless manufacturing — no need to print MOs.

  • Allowing operators to leave comments on manufacturing orders (MOs).

  • Focusing operators only on their assigned tasks, with restricted access to other areas of Katana.

  • Tracking progress and time — provides managers with insights into workflow and operational efficiency by monitoring operator progress and time utilization.

Operators in the app

  • Operators are added to your team via the main Katana site (learn how to invite team members).

  • Each operator has:

    • A dedicated login and task list.

    • Access to all operations for their assigned open MOs.

    • No access to cost, pricing, or other sensitive data.

Note: Operators cannot access the full Katana site — only the Shop Floor App.

Device access and logins

  • Operator accounts are not linked to specific devices.

  • Operators can log in from any device, but only one session is supported at a time.

  • Read more about recommended devices and login setup.

Customization options

The Shop Floor Control app also offers customization opportunities to tailor workflows.

For instance, you can automate the actual completed quantities for manufacturing orders:

  1. Go to Settings → Manufacturing.

  2. Turn OFF the option: Ask the quantity of finished products from the operator when a manufacturing order is completed.

  3. With this setting deactivated, planned quantities will automatically fill as completed upon order completion, simplifying tasks for your team.

Summary

The Shop Floor Control app helps manufacturing teams:

  • Work more efficiently,

  • Stay in sync with real-time data,

  • And reduce the overhead of paper-based production tracking.
