Assigning tasks to operators within Katana is key for organizing workflows in the production environment. This article outlines how to allocate production tasks to operators, either individually or in bulk.

Shop floor operators in Katana are Shop Floor App users. For tasks to show up in the app, you need to assign shop floor operators to tasks from inside Katana.

Tasks are production operations on open manufacturing orders (MO). You can assign operators to tasks on a MO or in the Tasks tab of the Make screen. You can also assign tasks to operators in bulk (see below).

If you don't want to manually assign shop floor operators to tasks on each MO, you can map default operators to certain resources. By doing this, you can still edit and reassign tasks on the MO.

Assigning a task to a shop floor operator from the MO

  1. Go to the Make screen and open one of the manufacturing orders.

  2. Find the Operations table on the MO (the MO needs to have production operations defined to assign tasks to operators). Tasks can only be assigned to operators, not manufacturing orders.

  3. Click on an empty cell in the Operators column and choose an operator under Assign to. Katana will display a list of all shop floor operators on your account (read more about adding shop floor operators).

Assign or unassign tasks to shop floor operators in bulk

  2. Select tasks and you'll see Assign to and Unassign options

  3. If you click Assign to you select multiple operators from the dropdown and click Apply.

Assigned tasks become visible to an operator on their Shop Floor App account. If a task is assigned to multiple shop floor operators, all of these operators can see and complete the task.

Tip! Filter "Unassigned" tasks in the Tasks tab to find any tasks that are unassigned. This is a quick way to make sure all tasks have been assigned.
