Katana's Shop Floor Control (SFC) app allows operators to use barcode scanning to streamline inventory updates and task completion. This reduces manual input, improves speed, and ensures more accurate stock tracking during manufacturing.

What barcode scanning can be used for

In the Shop Floor App, operators can scan barcodes to:

  • Add new ingredients to a manufacturing order (MO)

  • Search for ingredients in the Recipe / BOM of an MO

  • Report the actual quantity of ingredients consumed

  • Assign batch numbers using a batch barcode

These actions make it easier for operators to interact with the production process directly from their devices.

Enabling barcode scanning

Before using barcode scanning, make sure the barcode scanning feature is turned on in the Shop Floor App. This setting enables the app to use the device's camera to scan barcodes.

If items or batch numbers do not already have printed barcode labels, you'll need to generate and print barcode labels first.

Supported barcode types

Katana supports common barcode formats used for:

  • Inventory items

  • Ingredients

  • Batch numbers

You can scan barcodes from a printed label or directly from a screen using a mobile device’s camera.
